Chinameca Meat

Chinameca meat is typical of the municipality of Chinameca, Veracruz, from which it takes its name. It consists of pork loin or leg steaks prepared with a raw marinade that includes achiote, an ingredient that gives it its characteristic red color, guajillo chili, vinegar, garlic, salt, pepper and spices. Chinameca meat is used to prepare some typical dishes and snacks from the southeast of Veracruz, such as picaditas, garnachas, tacos or memelas.

Popo

Popo is a cold, foamy drink typical of the south of the state of Veracruz. Its main ingredient is cocoa, which is sweetened with sugar and mixed with water; azquiote is also added, which is what gives it its characteristic foam. It is consumed with the cocoa harvest, between the months of August and December. Its name comes from the Nahuatl, popocti ([thing] "that smokes" or "that foams"), according to the anthropologist Florentino Cruz, in reference to the characteristic foam of this drink.
